Canada Express Entry

Express Entry is one of the major immigration pathways in Canada, there are three ways through which you can apply for Express Entry namely Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

In 2023, some major changes will be seen by the Canada Express Entry draws conducted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship and Canada (IRCC). Recently IRCC had a consultation meeting with stakeholders and the public to understand what changes in the policies can be implemented to better target economic needs and labour shortages in Canada.

What Changes are to be expected in Canada Express Entry?

IRCC is planning to select candidates by creating Canada Express Entry categories that target key attributes such as work experience, educational credentials, or knowledge of an official language (English or French), rather than depending on a high CRS score solely.

Inviting Canada Express Entry candidates based on occupational background, sectors of the economy with labour shortages is being considered by IRCC, whether candidates have resided in Canada as temporary foreign workers or international students, and the French-language proficiency of candidates.

A Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score is provided to the candidates who apply for permanent residency through Canada Express Entry based on their age, job, qualifications, profile, etc. Invitation to Apply (ITA) is received by the people with the highest scores.

What can be the Possible Categories in Canada Express Entry?

  • Creating a category that includes work experience in particular occupations that are experiencing chronic labour shortages is being considered by IRCC. Some of these categories include administrative assistants, retail sales supervisors, software engineers, food service supervisors, designers, etc.
  • A potential category for selection in Express Entry focused on international student graduates could respond more directly to critical shortages as stated by IRCC. Hence, IRCC is considering transitioning from international graduates to permanent residents.
  • Creating a category for enabling more temporary foreign workers to become permanent residents via Canada Express Entry is being considered by IRCC. Concern about current permanent residence pathways not keeping up with the supply of temporary foreign workers capable of addressing labour force needs of Canada, in the long run, is raised by stakeholders in the consultancy.
  • Based on the candidate’s ability to speak French, IRCC is considering inviting them. Invitations can be entailed to French-speaking and bilingual candidates alike.ple Text
